I've just played through both Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST and you have no idea how badly distracted I would get playing through them with Nathan Fillion, Adam Baldwin and Alan Tudyk voicing the ODSTs...in ODST fair enough, you play as them, but in Halo 3 they are more like background characters, so occationally you'll hear "Jeeze look at that thing go." and you get so distracted by hearing one of their voices YOU GET KILLED!
I found it so hard not to refer to the characters in ODST as Mal, Jayne and Wash...especially in multiplayer mode. I'd be planning an assault on the bad guys and I'd say "Okay you make Wash ...damn it, sorry, you make MICKY flank them." in the end I gave up.
However the highlight for me was when (and I'm NOT hearing things) Dutch, Adams character yelled "We need some gorramn air support!" Oh my flip flop wearing god I went mad. I got a lot of weird looks...from my cat, but it just cheered me up so much!
I just wish they could have rendered Nathan better, it looks like him but in a shoddy half-arsed way that just says, we must get this done to release the Beta in time.
That is all!
Saz

I know what you mean.
I'm torn between playing Buck or Dutch on firefight. _________________ Damn Yankess killed and ate my horse! |

There was much swearing in chinese when I was playing online with some guys from the states...that was fun.
We all agreed that we only bought the game because of the guys doing the voice overs. Also gorramn was thrown around a lot, as in "He just Gorramn headshoted me!"
I generally play as Micky, however playing as Buck is a close second if he's taken. Wash fan to the end. _________________ "One day we'll settle down. As for Mal, I recon that nobody ain't ever gonna take the sky from that men." - Zoe, Rainbow Tears by lil old me!

Halo is the video game that brought me out of retirement.
Last thing I played was my kids Super Nintendo and that was Super Metroid. I wanted to know how the thing ended.
First time they got me to trying Halo and the whole 3d enviroment I thought I would never adapt. But I stuck with it and I'm a Field Major now.
Blew my mind when I realized Nathan Fillion was in it as well as Adam Baldwin, and, yeah, that was a factor in purchasing ODST, but I truly love Grunt Birthday Parties and throw as many as I can. _________________ Damn Yankess killed and ate my horse! |

At the end of Super Metroid, stuff explodes. Like it always does at the end of those types of games.
Unfortunately for me, I don't have an X-box, so I don't get Halo. I do however, have a Wii, which means Red Steel 2, which looks pretty awesome. Although it doesn't have any shiny voiceovers by people we know and love, it's a sci-fi-ish western, so it's in the same genre...sorta.
Hopefully I haven't lost anyone at this point. If I have, I apologize. _________________

Red Steel 2 sounds interesting. Don't have a WII but it might be enough to tempt me. _________________ Damn Yankess killed and ate my horse! |

There are a few other good games coming out for Wii in the near future also. If you like first-person shooters, then Metroid, Other M is probably going to be pretty good. As far as FPS, there isn't much more.
On a slightly unrelated note, I just got a PS3 through mostly random happenstance. Can anyone recommend any good games for it that are either out or coming out in the near future? _________________

LOL! Firefly cast voicing characters in the Halo series? I'm not surprised. Nathan Fillion has gone on record as being an avid fan and player of the game. Sooner or later the Powers That Be would tap him to do voice over work. That man has a voice on him and he enunciates expressively and well.
But the main reason for my LOL is: I don't play these sorts of games, but I do gakk as much of their OSTs off YouTube as possible. And then I go out and buy the CDs to keep myself honest. I have half the Halo series OSTs and my birthday's coming up. I wonder which one I'll get for a present.....hmmmmm.......?
But Red Steel sounds really great. Battlefield: Bad Company has a really great clip for their China Load Menu that I adore. And Animatrix has some kick-ass tracks to it.
And really, I'd be here all night yakkin' about music to games I've never played and like never will play, so I'll just close here.
If there is one thing I regret about VFF's medium for presenting new Firefly material, it's the lack of music that makes it kinda sad for me. I want a soundtrack to go with the eps.
Don't you? _________________

And what prevents us from making one? *grin begins to form*
Maybe there could be a "song for this scene" or even a "song for this episode" kind of thing, like when, at the end of shows, before the closing, they play some kind of song that fits whatever is going on at the moment in the lives of the characters. _________________

Yes, please, but don't have some whiney-voiced singer with a lone guitar do that horrible vocal montage-y song.
Please.
I hate that. _________________

Interesting fact: at one point, there was a discussion about making VFF a multimedia experience.
We discussed the possibility that music files would open and play when the reader went from one page to another. If I recall correctly, I think there was even a sample or two.
The problem was that it became too distracting. First, we wouldn't be able to use the pdf format for the finished product. Second, since different folk read at different speeds, it would be almost impossible to time/synch things.
If you guys can figure out a way to make it work, I'm all for it!
As a related fact: I don't know if most people know this, but we'd also discussed a video for credits for our "show." Sean even did a modified version of the FIREFLY logo animation for us... but that's as far as it got.
Again, the work/payoff ratio was not favorable. In theory, what would have happened is that when a reader opened one of the episodes, the credit animation would have played before taking them to the pdf. But, again, although theoretically very cool, it seemed like a potential distraction in practice. |

We could maybe post a link to a YouTube playlist? That way the music would be there for those as want it and not for those as....well....not?
Just throwing an idea into the ring. Need be nothing more than that. _________________

Or we could perhaps have a note at the beginning or end of an episode script saying "Song X is the theme for this episode" or "Song Y is for this scene". It wouldn't be overly complex or require too much timing.
Also that note could put it at the beginning of the scene the song was for, but that could also take away from what's happening or be too distracting. Also, having a Youtube link is great, but it doesn't tell you exactly what the music is from the URL and doesn't work if you don't have an Internet connection. For someone like me, who has, on occasion, downloaded the PDF then read it afterwards, when I didn't have a connection, the youtube link would be relatively meaningless.
The other option is embedding an MP3 and putting it either at the beginning of the scene in question or at the beginning of the very last scene or whenever its appropriate. The problem, again, is distraction level and I don't even know if you can do that and still keep the PDF format. Also, you'd need to figure out a way to (because I can't think of another word at the moment) 'gag' the MP3 so it doesn't start playing after it loads, only after the user clicks "play". _________________

There is also the copyright issue of mounting stuff not legally yours on the PDF, as you'd be doing if you were embedding an m3. However, posting a URL link to something you don't own isn't the same thing as embedding something someone else owns, so......
But yeah, you'd want to control when or even if the music played. At best, maybe we could treat is as a suggested wine selection to pair with your entree. e.g. for the torture scene, might we suggest a little percussive number, heavy on the bass notes with a light top hat cymbal finish with the lingering note of slack string guitar? _________________
